About

Introducing Prairie Food Safety

My name is Doug Barron and I am the owner of Prairie Food Safety, a food safety consulting company based in Winnipeg, Manitoba. I am a food safety specialist with a strong background in both manufacturing and the life sciences. My specialties include meat processing, processed products, food distribution and general food safety program management.

Through Prairie Food Safety, I work hard to apply my skills to the needs of Canadian food processors and distributors in the supply of safe and wholesome food.

A Little History

Due a wide ranging career, I consider myself one of Manitoba’s most versatile food safety consultants.

I started my career as a university scientist first doing basic research on diabetes and then cancer. After several years at the laboratory bench, I moved into the life science tools industry spending over a decade as a Technical Support Specialist, Technical Writer and Product Manager working in both Canada and the United States.

In 2009, stemming from a life-long interest in food preparation and production, I began tracking the issue of food safety. After consultation with Manitoba food processors and regulators, and with training from The Saskatchewan Food Industry Development Centre, The Guelph Food Technology Centre, and the Manitoba Department of Agriculture, I created Prairie Food Safety in the spring of 2010.

Prairie Food Safety is an opportunity for me to bring to bear over 30 years of analytical and technical skills to the needs of the Canadian food industry.
