University Study Finds That Canadians Expect Mandatory GMO Food Labelling
Researchers at Dalhousie University in Halifax surveyed 1,046 Canadians to measure their attitudes towards the safety of genetically modified foods. The study found that most people (70%) strongly felt that GMO foods and ingredients should be labelled on all packaging.
However, respondents were much more divided on whether they thought GMO foods were safe suggesting to the authors of the study that Canadians are confused about GMO foods and that the public and private sector has to do a better job of educating consumers. This is an observation echoed in an earlier study, reported here by the CBC.
